Open source, deliverability and the end of the internet – The Monday Jan 24th Roundup

It must be that time of the year. The roof across the street is now the pool across the street. Even the birds are hiding away.

This week the news is slightly less torrential than the rain, but there’s still a lot happening: from from-name’s effect on deliverability to Google dropping non-open sourced codecs from Chrome, to the world running out of IP addresses.

That’s going to happen this week, by the way. No more IPv4 IPs. It’s the end of the internet as we know it.

• Deliverability.com claims that new tests of their have found that Yahoo mail now places heavier authority in the from name(that’s the name before the @ sign) and may filter perfectly legitimate mail to the trash in certain circumstances. The main problem seemed to be multiple from names.
